ATTENTION SALESPEOPLE:
Here are the 4 dumbest things you could POSSIBLY do in a new sales role, all in ONE outbound email (see image above)!!!
1. Tell a flat-out lie in the subject line.
This person literally made up that Klaviyo (Retention.com’s top integration partner) banned Retention.com. Never happened. Never will. 85% of our customers are on Klaviyo.
2. Say that if it wasn’t true, we’d sue.
ANYBODY with half a brain knows that it’s not worth suing a dead-broke, struggling-for-dear-life copycat competitor over anything… Let alone something as dumb as this.
3. Try to turn it into a favorable comparison to your company (which is also totally fabricated).
Klaviyo has never investigated our data quality, or the data quality of this competitor, and the “case studies” that they are leaning on compare one of our product to a DIFFERENT product that they sell… They’re entire marketing plan is an apples-to-oranges comparison!!!
4. Send something this idiotic to your competitors’ happy customers.
Reputation takes years to build and seconds to destroy. I’m sure this worked on 1% of our customers… the other 99% find it repulsive. They tell us.
TAKEAWAY
If a company hires you to do sales, and what they tell you to pitch is a blatant lie, I have one piece of advice:
FIND ANOTHER JOB.
Our entire world is built on trust.
Any job where you spend your day trying to lie to people to get them on a demo will a) not last long, and b) end up being a massive step back in your career.
