Want Your Next $1M ARR? Listen to the OG of Personal Branding
If you’re a SaaS founder trying to go $0-$1 in 2025, there is only one growth tactic that I see working, and I see it over and over again (...and it’s not AI):
It’s the combination of Word-of-Mouth with a Minimum Viable Personal Brand (MVBP).
If you don’t have Word-of-Mouth, you’re probably screwed, and you should spend all of your time trying to improve your product enough to get it.
Without it, you’re dead in the water.
But in 2025 the startups I really see take off have Word-of-Mouth AND their Founders have a Minimum Viable Personal Brand.
And what is a Minimum Viable Personal Brand?
“Personal” can mean you or other people associated with you.
I define it as:
1. Either thought leadership coming directly from you, or
2. Somehow tapping into the Creator economy, making THEIR personal brands your MVPB
3. Or both
Thought leadership is pretty straight forward…
A halfway decent product + doing what I’m doing on LinkedIn will work every time.
But for #2 -
This becomes EVEN MORE VALUABLE and scales if you can make it a win-win for your creators.
If I look at the non-AI startups I’ve seen crush the $0-$1 extremely hard in a very short period of time…
- Clay
- Fyxer
- RB2B
- Instantly/Smartlead
- Leadmagic
All products with strong word-of-mouth, all had MVPB’s in one way or another.
